SSF contribution — the 11% + 20%
What your 11% and the employer's 20% put into the Social Security Fund each month, which schemes it funds, and what it grows to.
The statutory split, on your figure. Scheme percentages are the Fund's to change; the page names them so you can check against the SSF notice.
Of a basic of रू 30,000, रू 3,300 comes off your payslip and the employer adds रू 6,000 you never see on it — रू 9,300 a month into an account in your name. Over 20 years that is रू 36,90,160.48 paid in, before whatever the fund earns on it.
Almost all of it — 28.33 of the 31 points — is your own old-age pension; the rest buys medical, accident and family cover. The 1% social-security tax inside your 11% is also why an SSF member pays no 1% in the first income-tax slab.
| Year | Basic | That year | Paid in so far |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30,000 | 1,11,600 | 1,11,600 |
| 5 | 36,465 | 1,35,650 | 6,16,660 |
| 10 | 46,540 | 1,73,128 | 14,03,693 |
| 15 | 59,398 | 2,20,960 | 24,08,168 |
| 20 | 75,809 | 2,82,008 | 36,90,160 |
- Log in to the SSF portal and check that both shares are actually being deposited — an employer that deducts your 11% and deposits nothing is the commonest complaint.
- Enter the same basic in the salary-tax tool: an SSF member skips the 1% first-slab tax, and the 11% is deductible.
- Contribution-Based Social Security Act 2074: employee 11% and employer 20% of basic salary; schemes as the Fund publishes them (medical 1%, accident 1.4%, dependent 0.27%, old-age 28.33%).
- Basic salary as entered; allowances are not contributory.
- The career total is contributions only, with the salary rising once a year; no return is assumed on the fund.
- The foreign-employment (migrant) scheme has its own rates and is not this page.
A worked example
The form starts with these figures (in NPR) so you can see how it works before typing your own. They are made up — nobody's real numbers appear here.
Questions people ask
Is the employer's 20% really mine?
Yes — it is deposited into your own SSF account. It replaces the old provident fund and gratuity the employer used to owe (10% + 8.33%), plus 1.67% more. That is why the gratuity tool on this site is for the Gulf, not for SSF members in Nepal.
Can I take the money out?
The old-age scheme pays a monthly pension from 60, or a lump sum in the cases the Fund allows; the other schemes pay on the event (treatment, accident, death). The SSF website has the current withdrawal rules.
My employer deducts 11% but I see nothing in the portal.
Deducting without depositing is an offence under the Act. Take your payslips to the SSF office or use its complaint line; the site has a service for exactly this.
I work abroad — does this apply?
Migrant workers join the separate foreign-employment scheme with its own rates. This page is the domestic employer scheme.
Do you keep what I type here?
No. The figures are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address.
These are estimates. The figures depend entirely on the numbers you enter and on assumptions that are listed on every result. They are not financial advice, and a bank, employer or authority may use different rules. Check anything important with them before you decide.
We do not keep your figures. Salary, debt and savings you type here are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address. The only thing remembered is your country and language choice (a small cookie), so the currency can be suggested next time — never a figure you typed. Anonymous counters record that a calculation happened, not what it was.
