Remittance comparison — what reaches home

Enter the fee and rate of two or three senders and see who delivers the most rupees for the same money — and the gap over a year.

Including the fee — the total that leaves your pocket.

The rate on the board or in the app.

A comparison of the figures you typed, on the day you typed them. It names no company and earns nothing from where you send.

The fee comes off first, the rest is converted. From د.إ 2,000, option B delivers रू 71,700; the weakest delivers रू 71,495 — रू 205 less on this one send.

Over a year of 12 sends that gap is रू 2,460 — a real amount, for the trouble of asking at two counters.

What you can do next
  • Ask for the rate AND the fee before you hand over money — "no fee" is a rate question in disguise.
  • Sending through a bank or a licensed remitter also leaves a record, which matters for a loan or a visa later.
This answer assumes
  • The fee is taken from what you hand over, in the sending currency; if a sender adds it on top, enter the total you would actually pay.
  • The rate is what the sender gives, not the market rate — rates change daily, so compare on the same day.
  • Nothing is deducted at the receiving end; if a bank or agent in Nepal charges, subtract that from the rupees shown.

Questions people ask

Why did the "no fee" option lose?

Because the fee is charged once and the rate applies to every unit. A rate lower by 0.35 on 2,000 dirhams costs 700 rupees; a 25-dirham fee costs about 900. Which wins depends on the amount — for a small send the fee matters more, for a large one the rate does. This page does the arithmetic instead of guessing.

Where do I find the rate?

On the board at the counter, in the app before you confirm, or by asking "how many rupees for one dirham today". Compare the rate they will actually give you, not an advertised one.

Is the bank or the exchange house better?

Neither, by rule — it changes with the day and the amount. Enter both and see. What the bank gives you is a record, which has its own value.

Do you keep what I type here?

No. The figures are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address.

These are estimates. The figures depend entirely on the numbers you enter and on assumptions that are listed on every result. They are not financial advice, and a bank, employer or authority may use different rules. Check anything important with them before you decide.

We do not keep your figures. Salary, debt and savings you type here are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address. The only thing remembered is your country and language choice (a small cookie), so the currency can be suggested next time — never a figure you typed. Anonymous counters record that a calculation happened, not what it was.
