Salary for part of a month

Joined or left mid-month, or had unpaid days? What that month should pay, counted from the dates.

Whichever you want the share of — basic or with allowances.

More options

Usually 30 in the Gulf and Nepal; 26 in Kuwait and some companies; a few use the calendar month.

Pay for this part of the month
⤰āĨ‚ 1,800
18 paid days of 30
Days on the books 18 13 Sep – 30 Sep 2026, both counted
Unpaid days 0
One day's pay ⤰āĨ‚ 100 ⤰āĨ‚ 3,000 Ãˇ 30
Share of the month 60.0%

The common payroll rule on your dates, not your contract. A contract or a company policy that names a different divisor decides.

From 13 Sep to 30 Sep is 18 days. One day is ⤰āĨ‚ 3,000 Ãˇ 30 = ⤰āĨ‚ 100, so the month pays ⤰āĨ‚ 1,800.

If the payslip shows less, the usual reasons are a different divisor (26 vs 30), a start date recorded later than your first day, or days marked unpaid that were not.

What you can do next
  • Check which day the company recorded as your start — the visa stamp, the contract and the first day of work can differ, and the earliest one on paper is the one to argue for.
  • For the final month, add unused leave and gratuity with the end-of-service tool on this site.
This answer assumes
  • Both the first and the last day are paid days; weekends inside the period are paid like any other day, as in a normal month.
  • The divisor is 30 unless changed: UAE, Qatar, Saudi and Nepali payrolls generally use it; Kuwait uses 26.
  • A full month (paid days â‰Ĩ the divisor) is the whole monthly figure.

The form starts with these figures (in NPR) so you can see how it works before typing your own. They are made up — nobody's real numbers appear here.

Questions people ask

Are Fridays and holidays in the period paid?

Yes. A monthly salary covers every day of the month, rest days included, so a part month covers every day on the books. Only days actually marked unpaid come off.

30 or 26 — which is right?

Most Gulf and Nepali payrolls divide by 30 whatever the month. Kuwait's law uses 26 working days, and some companies elsewhere copy it. Your contract or the company's policy names it; if neither does, 30 is the common practice.

My first month's pay was calculated from the visa date, not my first day.

Pay is for the days you were employed. If you were on the books earlier — the contract or the visa says so — those days count. Ask for the start date the company recorded and compare.

Do you keep what I type here?

No. The figures are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address.

These are estimates. The figures depend entirely on the numbers you enter and on assumptions that are listed on every result. They are not financial advice, and a bank, employer or authority may use different rules. Check anything important with them before you decide.

We do not keep your figures. Salary, debt and savings you type here are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address. The only thing remembered is your country and language choice (a small cookie), so the currency can be suggested next time — never a figure you typed. Anonymous counters record that a calculation happened, not what it was.
